The Beartooths

This past weekend found me with a couple Mountain Sky friends in the Beartooths, an incredible area just west of Yellowstone.  It might just be my favorite place in Montana.  While Jellystone, Glacier, and the Tetons are crawling with tourists, the Beartooths fly under the radar.  Check it out.

Big Sky to Mountain Sky

Hike from where I worked this past winter to my summer place?  Yes please.

This past weekend I had the chance to trek 17 miles across the Gallatin Mountains.  We left from a trailhead up Portal Creek Road near Big Sky, under a classic Montana "Big Sky" at 9am.  The trail led us 2.5 miles up to Windy Pass, the marker in the middle of the map.  From there we took in the views and hiked down to the beginning of Big Creek and followed it all the way to the ranch.  Neat-o.

The following view is a look down Big Creek from the very top.
